The University of the Third Age today called for the government to reverse Labour’s decision to refuse funding for equivalent or lower qualifications to those the student already possesses (ELQs). The U3A also called for an approach to student grants which ensures that universities are not filled with the children of the rich .

CURB BACKGROUND MUSIC, U3A TELLS BBC
U3A chairman Ian Searle is to write to BBC director general Mark Thompson to ask that television producers should take account of the hearing needs of older people, and ensure that the volume of background music does not prevent older people from hearing the words of television programmes.
